The genealogy program that we use in our project is "Family Tree Maker". It is a well respected program that addresses privacy and security issues. With a simple ‘click’ of a button we can privatize all sensitive information about living individuals before a report is printed or posted. Using the “privatize file” option tells the program to treat all birth dates– and if desired, marriage dates – as confidential and when a report is generated, the confidential information will appear as “Private” and will not be disclosed. The following is an example of how a 'Privatized Report' looks:

Similarly, we can 'click' a button and have only the 'year' displayed for all the individuals on our reports. This format allows you, our family and guests, an opportunity to understand the time frame in which we are discussing within our report, without disclosing any personal information. Please note that only the 'year of birth' and 'year of death' is displayed, nothing more. The following is an example of how an Outlined Descent Report (with 'year only') looks:

Because of the “privatize” and "year only" features within the "Family Tree Maker" program, we can have accurate genealogy information securely stored in our electronic files (i.e. full birth and marriage dates), yet post none of your confidential information in the final reports. We currently employ the “privatize” and/or the "year only" features on all treesinthewoods.com reports and promise to never disclose anything more.
