It is our sincerest hope to share our unique family history with all of you - our Cousins. The data compiled within this website is the fruit of decades of hard work and research. Yet, a "Family Tree" is a living breathing thing, and as such we need your assistance to keep it current and growing. If you note that you or a family member's information needs updating, please contact us. With today's technology we are able to communicate far easier than our ancestors did and we wish to include all of our Cousins in this project, treesinthewoods.com. The Anatomy of our Family Tree

Ancestor trees (sometimes called "pedigree" trees) show the family history for any individual. For example, if you created your own Ancestor tree, it would show your two parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents, and so forth. Everyone on this planet has an Ancestor Tree, whether you know all their names or not.

Descendant trees display the direct descendants of individuals. Starting with a relative in the distant past, a Descendant tree moves to the present, showing the primary individual's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on, generation by generation.

When we combine an 'Ancestor Tree' with a 'Descendant Tree' we get a 'Family Tree'. In our particular study, this overlapping of trees occurs within the "Woods" Family Lineage, in many cases, through Olive Welby, one of our 'Gateway Ancestors' (See photo left). Our current, complete 'Woods Family Tree' contains over 4,000 individuals, spanning over 1,500 years.

As previously mentioned, everyone has an Ancestor Tree. Naturally however, not everyone will share the same ancestors. This website is based upon a genealogical study of one particular Woods Family line {Samuel Woods & Alice Rushton, both born in 1636} and the many ancestral branches and descent of that tree. The Timeline of our Family Tree

The timeline of our complete 'Woods Family Tree' spans 4 continents, over 15 centuries, with documented sources, referencing from as far back as Merovech, King of the Saltan Franks (411 - 456) to today. While we attempt to never provide any personal information, or addresses, of living relatives on this website, some 'year' dates are provided as a means of fitting into the timeline. Although it is not needed to view this website, we do use "Family Tree Maker" Program exclusively to keep all our information together in an organized manner, available through Genealogy.com.
